Job Title: Programs Assistant

Reports To: Director of Operations

We are seeking a dedicated Programs Assistant to join our team at The National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church, contributing to the memorable and spiritual experiences and growth of our pilgrims and visitors. As a Programs Assistant, you will collaborate closely with the Director of Operations to conceptualize, plan, and execute various enriching experiences including Shrine tours, Catholic Masses, pilgrimages, retreats, and events, with a particular focus on honoring Mary as Mother of the Church and all mothers in accordance with our Mission Statement.

The National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church is dedicated to Mary as Mother of the Church and all mothers. Its mission is to promote:

  • An understanding of the Church community that gives Mary the title of Mother.


Collaboration in Event Planning and Coordination: Work closely with the Director of Operations to conceive, plan, and coordinate diverse experiences for guests and visitors, including pilgrimages, retreats, and events honoring Mary and mothers.

Administrative Support: Provide comprehensive administrative assistance related to programs and events, including documentation, scheduling, correspondence, errands, and other administrative tasks supporting the Director of Operations.

Design and Decor: Contribute to the decoration and arrangement of event areas and sacred spaces, fostering an environment conducive to joyful Christian living, reflection, prayer, and spiritual growth.

Outdoor Summer Masses: Assist in coordinating and supporting Masses held outdoors during the summer.

Gift Shop Support: Aid in supporting operations related to the Shrine’s gift shop.

Volunteer Coordination: Recruit, organize, and coordinate the volunteers needed for events and programs, ensuring smooth execution and a hospitable atmosphere for all participants.

Meals Coordination: Collaborate with the kitchen team to plan and organize meals for events, ensuring a delightful culinary experience that aligns with the spiritual essence of the shrine.


  • A practicing Catholic with a good understanding of Catholic teachings, traditions, and practices, resonating with the Shrine’s mission.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, the use of computers, printers, and other relevant equipment.
  • Residing in the Lake of the Ozarks area or ability to relocate.
  • Availability for some weekends and evenings, particularly during the summer, to support outdoor Masses, programs, and events.
  • Passionate about serving others and fostering spiritual growth in a religious environment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and manage diverse responsibilities.
  • Experience in event planning, coordination, or volunteer management is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred in fields such as Religious Studies, Theology, Event Management, Communications, or a related field.
