The National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church offers Mass, other events honoring mothers

Mothers and their loved ones are invited to enjoy the beauty of The National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church on Mother’s Day, May 12. Mother’s Day is a special event for the Mothers’ Shrine, which honors the Blessed Mother, Mary, and all who love with a mother’s love, whether as a mom within a family or as a spiritual mother. The Mothers’ Shrine is adjacent to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 176 Marian Drive in Laurie. 

The Mothers’ Shrine is hosting a complimentary brunch May 12, 9:30 – 11 am, following 8:30 am Mass at St. Patrick Catholic Church. There is no fee for the meal and all are welcome. Reservations are not necessary; people will be seated first come, first serve. Donations are welcomed.

Mother’s Day afternoon, at 1:30 pm, all are welcomed to a special Mass celebrated by Father John Schmitz, rector of the Mothers’ Shrine, at the outdoor altar. Following the Mass, the names of more than 100 new honorees for the Mothers’ Wall of Life will be unveiled.

The Mothers’ Wall of Life is a unique aspect of the Mothers’ Shrine. The names of more than 5,000 women submitted from 44 states and four continents are engraved on a black granite wall on the grounds of the Mothers’ Shrine. Names are added twice a year; submissions are accepted year-round. The next engraving of names will be this fall. 

A little bit of heaven is nestled within the Ozark hills of Missouri on more than 50 acres along Missouri Route 5 between Versailles and Camdenton, Missouri. About 20 miles north of Camdenton and 17 miles west of U.S. Business Route 54 at Lake of the Ozarks, The National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church is dedicated to Mary, Mother of the Church, and to all the mothers of the world and is affectionately known as the “Mothers’ Shrine.”

The mission of the Mothers’ Shrine is to promote a true appreciation of motherhood, the preciousness of life, the integrity of the family, and an understanding of the Church community that gives Mary the title of Mother. The Mothers’ Shrine provides faith-filled and joyful outdoor Eucharistic celebrations, pilgrimages and retreats, a serene and beautiful space for prayer and reflection, and celebrations throughout the year in honor of Mary and motherhood.
