The National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church (Mothers' Shrine) is a place of pilgrimage which exalts the Blessed Mother, calls all to pray and reflect and serves as a universal voice promoting motherhood and the integrity of family life.
The Mothers’ Shrine is operated by Mary, Mother of the Church Shrine, a 501(c)(3) Missouri corporation which manages and maintains the programs, fundraising, operations and facilities for The National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church. The Mothers' Shrine is owned by the Diocese of Jefferson City Real Estate Corporation.
As part of fulfilling its responsibilities, our board upholds the traditions and teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, the Norms for Designation of a National Shrine as promulgated by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, federal and state constitutions, the laws and regulations of the United States and the State of Missouri, the Diocese of Jefferson City and all other applicable government entities as well as the policies, procedures, rules and regulations of Mary, Mother of the Church Shrine.
Members of the board serve without compensation. Our operating costs are ongoing for personnel, maintenance, granite engraving, communications, marketing, pilgrimage speakers and office expenses.
The National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church's sole source of revenue is donations. Any funds that a donor designates for a specific purpose are recorded separately and not brought into income until the expense for the item(s) so designated is incurred.
All donors’ gifts are recognized with a personal letter and a tax letter in accordance with IRS laws. The corporation files a 990-tax return in accordance with IRS tax laws.
